Hello and welcome to Nathan on Shuffle!
This is hopefully the beginning of a long and prosperous journey to blog about the music that inspires me. Music has been my main obsession ever since my teenage years back in the late 90s and early 2000s. I have discovered so many amazing artists over the past 25 years that have brought me a lot of joy, and I have a strong desire to share this in some way with others.
A love of Progressive Rock has proven to be incredibly satisfying, but also a bit isolating. I don’t find many people out in the “real world” who connect to this music on a similar level as me. Granted, part of this is because I’m anti-social and stick to my own small friend groups, but it is also because Progressive Rock isn’t as celebrated as it should be among the general population.
So, my purpose with this blog is to try to both connect with people who are established prog nerds like me to help expand my social circle, as well as reach out to those who may not be aware of this great genre and all it has to offer. I also want to hopefully introduce the “prog nerds” to music they might not know about- either because it is from the obscure corners of the progressive rock genre, or because it sits just outside of it.
The focus of this blog will mainly be on prog rock, because this is what I know and love primarily, but I’m also trying to expand my tastes beyond these boundaries. So, you may see music features from the fields of classic rock, alternative rock, pop, funk, R&B and jazz. If something catches my ears, I want to talk about it, regardless of the noted genre.
So, please join me on my journey. My desire is to try to share something music related every day, but we shall see if that is too ambitious or not. I plan to make music recommendations, give long-form reviews, and occasionally react to things that I stumble upon within the music world.
As an early disclaimer, I want to stress that this blog is meant to be a place of positivity. I want to share the things that I truly love and will keep criticism at a minimum, and I hope any commenters will follow this same principle. I also think it is important to say that the things I discuss are purely my own opinion and are reflections of my favorite music. I’m not making any objective declaration about what the best music is, I’m merely sharing the music that touches me in some way.
With that out of the way, I hope to soon share an important
piece of who I am. The wonderful thing about music is that it is so personal- based
on a person’s own individuality and experiences. I wish to celebrate that here
and let you all into a part of my world. It should be fun!
